A Soft Day

The weather in April can be fickle. This morning is was cool and sunny, but as the day progressed clouds gathered and seemed to promise rain. But every now and then, sun would break through for a few moments and create a beautiful, almost magical glow. When I went to Peace Valley Park today, unfortunately, the sun would not come out. It seemed that it would rain any minute so I set up my easel on the little bridge over the lake - allowing for a quick dash back to the truck if it started to pour.

As I was setting up and older gentleman approached me. With the lilt of a beautiful Irish brogue he proclaimed "Ah, I admire you artists, coming out paint, I wish I could do it". We had a lovely conversation for about 5 minutes. There was a connection between an artist friend of his who lived in Cape May and my fathers side of the family who lives in Cape May (the names Kelly and Donovan made his eyes light up). Instant bonding, more conversation. With a broad smile and a twinkle in his eyes that only the Irish seem to have, he bid his farewell with that lovely voice: "Hey, I'll let you get to your work, good luck kid"! That was all the sunshine I needed for the day.

This is painting #5 in the Rising From the Ashes series.
